# Sound Presets: Save Your Sound and Recall It Instantly

> Save a room's EQ levels — plus, if you tick them, volume, Night Sound, Speech Boost and Loudness — into a preset, then bring it all back with a single tap.

Sound presets let you lock in exactly how a room should sound for a given situation — movie night, background music, late-night listening — and bring it all back instantly with a single tap. Every room has its own presets: three on the room page (TV presets) and three more on the Music sheet (music presets).

## Where the presets live

* **Room page** — the **Sound Presets** row sits between the volume card and the EQ card. These three slots are the room's *TV* presets and carry a small TV badge once saved.
* **Music sheet** — tap **Music** in the source row at the top of a room to open it. It has its own **Sound Presets** row with three *music* slots (music-note badge), which can also capture the Music Level and Ambient/Full setting that only exist on that sheet.

All six start out named **Preset 1**, **Preset 2** and **Preset 3**. A preset is stored per room — saving "Movies" in the Living Room does not change the Bedroom's presets.

## What a preset captures

    The sound itself is always captured — you cannot leave these out:

    * **Bass** and **Treble**
    * **Surround** level (rooms with surrounds)
    * **Height** level (height-capable soundbars and Era 300 satellites)
    * **Subwoofer** level (rooms with a Sub)
    * **Crossover** (Sonos Amp with a Sub)
    * On the Music sheet only: **Music Level** and **Ambient / Full** playback mode

    The save sheet has an **Also save** list. Anything left unticked is simply not part of the preset, and loading it leaves that setting exactly as the room has it now:

    * **Volume**
    * **Night Sound** (soundbar rooms, room page only)
    * **Speech Boost** (soundbar rooms, room page only)
    * **Loudness**

    An **All** row at the bottom ticks or clears every option offered for that room. The list only shows what the room can actually use — a music preset never offers Night Sound or Speech Boost, and a room without Loudness does not offer Loudness.

## Saving, loading, and renaming presets

    Adjust the EQ sliders and toggles until the room sounds exactly the way you want. If you want the preset to set the volume too, set that as well.

  <Step title="Hold a preset to save">
    Press and hold any preset card for about half a second. The **Save Preset** sheet opens with the name field (up to 14 characters) and the **Also save** tick list. Tick what you want the preset to carry, then tap **Save**. The card highlights as the active preset and a toast confirms "*name* saved".

    Tap any card to apply everything it captured at once. The sliders move to the saved values and the speaker updates immediately. If the preset captured a volume, the room's volume changes too — so keep that in mind before ticking Volume on a preset you use late at night.

  <Step title="Rename without re-saving">
    Hold the card again, change only the name and leave the ticks alone — the button reads **Rename** instead of **Save**, and every stored value is kept exactly as it was. Change any tick and it becomes a full **Save** again, re-capturing the room's current settings.

<Note>
  The tick list opens pre-filled with what the preset already holds, so a rename never silently drops Volume, Night Sound, Speech Boost or Loudness. Unticking something is a deliberate choice and clears it on Save.

## When a preset deactivates

The active highlight is worked out from what the speaker reports, not remembered: a preset stays highlighted only while every level it captured still matches the room. The moment you move a slider it captured — or flip Night Sound, Speech Boost, or Loudness on a preset that captured them — the highlight clears, and a toast tells you "*name* preset was disabled". Your manual change stays in effect. Changes made from the official Sonos® app clear the highlight the same way at the next background sync. To bring the preset back, tap it again.

## Presets in music-only rooms

Presets work in every room, not just soundbar rooms. In a room without a soundbar, Night Sound and Speech Boost are never offered, so the presets there capture the EQ levels plus, optionally, Volume and Loudness.

## Presets from Siri and the widget

Once you name a preset, Siri knows it by that name — say "**Apply Movies in Somos InControl**" and it loads without any Shortcut setup. The Home Screen widget can also apply presets with one tap. See [Widget & Siri](/features/widget-and-siri).

  A good starting set for a soundbar room: **Movies** (Speech Boost on, a little extra bass), **Late Night** (Night Sound on, Volume ticked at a low level), and **Music** saved from the Music sheet with Loudness on.
