This page covers the issues users run into most often and walks you through how to resolve each one. Work through the relevant section below; most problems have a straightforward fix. If none of these steps resolve your issue, the contact form goes straight to the developer.
The most common cause is a network mismatch or a missing permission. Work through these steps in order:
  1. Check you’re on the same Wi-Fi network. Your iPhone or iPad and your Sonos® speakers must be on the same network — not a guest network or a separate IoT VLAN. Many routers broadcast separate SSIDs for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands; connect both to the same one.
  2. Verify Local Network permission. If you declined the prompt when the app first launched, go to Settings → Somos InControl → Local Network and turn it on (the menu’s App Permissions in iPhone Settings takes you there). Then tap Try Again.
  3. Rescan. Open the menu and choose Advanced → Rescan My Network. Discovery also runs fresh on every launch, so force-quitting and reopening works too.
  4. Test with the official Sonos® app. If it can’t find your speakers either, the problem is the network itself — restart your router and speakers, then test again.
If your speakers appear in the official app but not in Somos InControl, use the Speakers Not Found questionnaire — also under Speaker Checks in the menu.
If some rooms are missing — especially with an S1 and an S2 system, or two homes — these are the usual causes:
  • Same Wi-Fi requirement. See the section above.
  • A second system. Somos InControl keeps each Sonos® system separate. Open the menu: if more than one system is listed under System, tap the other one. If it isn’t listed, use Add a Home / New S1 or S2 System or Advanced → Rescan My Network. See Multiple Systems.
  • A quarantined speaker. A speaker on older firmware than the rest of the household shows Needs a firmware update and can’t be controlled until the Sonos® app has updated it.
If speakers are still missing, the Speakers Not Found questionnaire is the best next step.
The speaker rejected the value. This usually happens when Trueplay is active for that control, the room is in a group, or the connection dropped briefly. Pull down on the room page to refresh, then try again. Volume and EQ changes go straight to the speaker over Wi-Fi — a weak signal can lose a command before the speaker receives it.
That’s by design: the highlight means the room currently matches the preset. Move any slider the preset captured — in Somos InControl or the official Sonos® app — and it clears, with a toast saying the preset was disabled. Tap the preset to reapply it. If a preset seems to load nothing, check what it captured: hold it and look at the ticks — Volume, Night Sound, Speech Boost and Loudness are only restored if they were ticked when it was saved.
Somos InControl sets Speech Boost, reads the value back, and if the speaker hasn’t accepted it the switch goes back and a toast says the speaker refused it — rather than pretending it worked. On the Arc Ultra, Speech Boost is a five-level slider (Off to Max) instead of a switch; if the slider doesn’t hold a value, the speaker is reporting a different level than the one you set.Behaviour varies across soundbar models and the developer doesn’t own every one. The fastest way to get it fixed is the questionnaire — every question is optional, including your email.

Answer a few quick questions about how Speech Boost behaves on your soundbar so the developer can reproduce and fix the issue.
The crossover slider only appears for the Sonos Amp with a Sub — the only Sonos® product with an adjustable crossover. A Sub bonded to a soundbar or a pair of speakers has no crossover control, and that’s correct.If you do have an Amp and the slider appears but changes don’t stick, the app re-reads the value from the speaker and shows what it actually has. Fill in the questionnaire so the developer can track it down.

Answer a few quick questions about your Sonos Amp setup so the developer can track down why the crossover isn’t changing.
Every speaker you assign must be completely standalone — not in any group, stereo pair, or bonded to another soundbar. Even partial group membership makes bonding fail. Ungroup everything in the official Sonos® app first, then try again. When a configuration doesn’t take, Somos InControl restores your previous setup automatically — your system is never left half-configured.If a released speaker doesn’t reappear as its own room after a minute, unplug it for 10 seconds and plug it back in — Sonos® firmware sometimes holds the old bond until the speaker restarts. See Speaker Setup.
Playing music points the soundbar away from its TV input. Tap TV in the source row at the top of the room page — or the TV / Music switch below the playback controls on the Music sheet — to send it straight back. No need to touch the TV remote.
Check three things: the Live Activity toggle in the app’s menu is on; Settings → Apps → Somos InControl → Live Activities is enabled in iOS (the menu shows an orange link if it isn’t); and your iPhone runs iOS 16.2 or later. The card also ends about 30 minutes after the app goes to the background — reopen the app to bring it back.
Open Somos InControl at least once after installing the widget — the widget takes its rooms and presets from the app and refreshes each time you open it. To change which room or which row type it shows, long-press the widget and tap Edit Widget.
The tour is designed to run once, then only when you choose Take the Tour from the menu. If it keeps reappearing, there is likely an issue with local storage on your device. Uninstall Somos InControl and reinstall it from TestFlight.
  1. Force-quit the app. Swipe it away in the App Switcher, then tap the icon to reopen.
  2. Restart your device. If force-quitting doesn’t help, a full device restart often will.
  3. Contact support. If the app still crashes after a restart, send a message with your device model and iOS version.
